Welcome! My name is Trevor Wilson, and I currently serve as the chief of the planning division of the Indianapolis Fire Department, a peer team leader for the Commission on Fire Accreditation International, and a contractor with the Center for Public Safety Excellence’s Technical Advisor Program. The opinions and thoughts expressed in this blog are my own (unless directly stated otherwise) and not those of the aforementioned entities.
I have two humble goals for this space. First, I want to provide a resource for firefighters that have recently transitioned into administrative roles (particularly ones with planning and assessment responsibilities). The fire service does an excellent job of preparing its members for promotion in operational roles, but there are few free tools that specifically examine how to be successful when the shirt turns from blue to white. Second, I hope to create conversations and connections between the many brilliant minds that I have been lucky enough to find in my orbit in recent years.
My intention is to post new material every Monday. For the time being, I will focus on basic assessment practices by sharing stories of my experiences with IFD and the interesting conversations that have occurred on the road, at conferences, and over adult beverages.
